Temple has a PHD in animal science, bestselling author, and consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior. She  is autistic and  considered a leader of both the animal welfare and autism movements.

Temple was the focus of a HBO film, titled Temple Grandin, which was released in 2010 and won the Emmy award. Also, in 2010, TIME magazine named Gradin as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
